Checking In, But Not Catching Up

My title is sad, but true. It has been two long weeks since I've posted anything. Sure, I have a few valid excuses, but over the past week, my main excuse is: laziness. However, I have much more than a week of catching up to do...errr. Work has been kicking my butt lately as we've entered into the busy season, which lasts until the beginning of September. I suppose I'm also adjusting to that I'm-dead-tired-feeling that I usually have when I walk into our house during this time of year.

So, no project completed this week, or last, but I'm still here and will catch up on projects and everything else soon. Until then, I hope your week starts out great!

Project 52 - Week 15

I did lots of 'this and that' around the house this weekend. From baking to steam cleaning, I feel like I was pretty productive, overall. So although my project wasn't overly time consuming, it was nice to clean out a heavily used and abused area - the cabinet under our sink. Does anyone else have a cabinet that looks like this? I hope it's just not me...

Less clutter = much better!

Easter 2012

The saying, 'what a difference a year makes' is no joke when it comes to kids and holidays. Kathryn was full of excitement as we 'prepped' her for the Easter Bunny two days before his arrival.

Around 7 a.m. on Easter morning we heard her bedroom door open. E. J. quickly got up to meet Kathryn in the hallway and she immediately said to E. J. "eat moon ('moon' = more) chocolate". When we got to her room, we were greeted by Hersey Kisses wrappers on her bed and floor. Looks like she was smarter than we thought and found the trail of Easter eggs that E. J. had made the night before and chowed down on some chocolate before she came to get us!
After cleaning up the candy wrappers, we led Kathryn to her Easter basket which was hidden in the coat closet next to a half eaten carrot that the Easter Bunny had munched on. She immediately examined everything in her basket from candy, the movie "Hop", and some new big girl plates and silverware. The candy is mostly for mom and dad to share :).

Loading up her loot into the shopping cart to transport to her room

Later in the afternoon we had Easter lunch followed by the first Egg Hunt of the day. Kathryn even found the 'golden egg' with some cash in it (all together, she found $9.50 in cash, which she promptly put in her piggy bank) She has a BLAST!
Naturally, she had to get some time on a tractor
Later that afternoon, E. J.'s mom had another Easter Egg hunt for some kids in the family as well as some friends. It was a fun afternoon for her filled with running around and playing - a little girl's dream.
It wouldn't be a fun time without throwing rocks in a pond
Happy Easter!!

Project 52 Week 14

Happy Easter! Today marked the last installment of our closet makeover. And honestly, I'm so happy to have finally finished it, even if it did take me three weeks.

In between my Easter candy sugar binge, I went through all of my clothes and weeded out my winter clothes. It's just too cramped and unorganized with everything in there and luckily I can utilize the spare bedroom closet to now store seasonal clothes.

The crowded 'before'
Wherein I realize I'm much more of a winter clothes person
 Ah! Greatly improved

23 Months

Really, 23 months? I don't know how we're month away from the big "2". It's exciting and a little sad all at once, but I can say that we're enjoying every moment of this ride that she's bringing us along.
Here she is being E. J.'s twin when he was her age:
23 months has marked some exciting changes:

*Major speech developments. She's now capable of speaking in 3 to 4 word sentences
*In the past few weeks she went from saying "yeah" to "yes"
*"BOOYAH" is one of her favorite terms, which she actually uses in the right context (we think she picked it up from a commercial she overheard!)
*"Oh my goodness"and "of course" are some other favorite phrases
*"Dinner ready" is her automatic response to the stove timer or microwave beeping
*When she uses the potty, she insists that you leave the bathroom. She will ensure the door is closed and normally locked so she can have privacy.
*Her mini-toilet also doubles as a stool for when she brushes her teeth, which she moves to a very specific spot each time.
*She constantly speaks of measuring and painting - more to come on that later when I update from my parent's visit.
*She's wearing size 3T and 4T clothes and a size 6 diaper. Lately it seems like 4T fits more comfortably. But, let's be honest, she didn't have much of a chance to be a little peanut.
*Kathryn's eyes are very telling. She does this thing that I can't catch on camera - she basically tries to ignore you by looking waaaaayyy off to the side, making it look like they're almost closed. She's quite the little actress.

And finally, last night I went into Kathryn's room after she had been talking in her room for over an hour while "trying" to go to sleep. I brought the video camera in since she was in a talkative mood and asked her about her current career as a doctor, since she hangs out with a veterinarian everyday (a.k.a. my mother-in-law) and that lead into some more conversation.

I'll be cherishing this 23rd month and soaking up every last bit of "1".

Project 52 - Week 13

This was week 2 of 3 as the continuation of last week's closet disaster project.
The before!
Weeding out and organizing...
Much better
Next week it's on to traditional spring cleaning; weeding out the middle level of the closet. I need to separate spring/summer clothes from the winter clothes and move them to the spare bedroom closet. To be continued...
