Lately...

*I've been terribly behind on blogging and I really need to do some catching up. It's annoying me.

*I have not been getting enough sleep this week. I've been going to bed much too late for having to wake up at 5:30 a.m. each morning.

*I'm about 10 years behind the times, but I started reading The Hunger Games yesterday and I anticipate finishing the book tonight. A friend of mine is letting me borrow the book and I'm starting the second one tomorrow. I completely get the hype!

*I'm SO ready for the weekend. I'm totally that person who is "working for the weekend". I just need to get Kathryn on board with sleeping until at least 8.m. Wishful thinking?

*I've watched entirely too much Curious George lately, which Kathryn fondly calls George. It's the only thing she wants to watch when she's allowed to watch television.

Dare I admit that I actually like it too and think the theme song is really catchy? Don't get me wrong, I'd rather be watching Real Housewives of Any City if I'm going to be watching tv, but these days George it is. (And the Real Housewives are for when Kathryn's sleeping and E. J.'s in another room. He doesn't have an appreciation for it.)

Happy weekend!!

Project 52 - Week 12

This week's project is by far the most embarrassing photos for me to post in this series. I have been dreading doing this particular project for a while, but I decided to suck it up this week and just get it over with, or at least begin the process of cleaning out the closet in our bedroom.

This closet was one of the reasons I originally loved our house. It's spacious and although I could easily fill up the entire space with my stuff, it suits us both well.

Seriously, I can't believe I'm even sharing these pictures. If it means anything to you, there is no other place in our house that is even remotely this bad. Please forgive me and swear you won't judge me? No really, I mean it...
I really don't have a good explanation for this mess other than time just getting away from me. And yes, I'm mostly to blame as the majority of this nightmare consists of my stuff.
I took a couple of hours Saturday night and some time today going through piles, organizing, and throwing out some junk that was just lying around.

Kathryn came in the closet after her nap, spun around, and said "OH MY GOODNESS!".Gee, thanks for reminding mommy how bad it was, K.
This was all just for the floor level. Next week I'm moving to the top shelf and then eventually moving on to organizing clothes by the season.

I'll Probably Regret Saying This, But...

For a few minutes last night, Kathryn actually drank some milk from a sippy cup.

As you may have read, my daughter has a raging addiction to drinking milk (only) out of a bottle. It's so bad that I'm on the verge of proposing a new show to the A&E folks who produce 'Intervention' to start toddler edition.

We had a serious bath time talk about how 'big girls' use a sippy cup and she was in complete agreement. Dare I say, even excited to drink her milk out of a sippy cup?

She didn't drink much, but I'm happy that she tried doing it some more than our failed attemps in the past.

Obviously, I had to document this big deal of a night. And yes, I look like a crazy lady, but these are the types of things that excite me lately.

Mommy Wants to Sleep

I can't help but be so proud that I have a really smart 22 month old. She already knows that the shortest distance between two objects is a straight line. Great, right? You bet, unless you're me.
Just because there happens to be a straight line between my side of the bed and our bedroom door naturally means that I'm the one K goes to if she wakes up in the middle of the night.

For example, this morning, K decided to start her day at 3:50 a.m. and who did she enthusiastically say "Hiiiiiiiiii" to as her little feet scampered across the floor? Me, of course!

I would be totally fine if she deviated once in a while and took a few extra steps to E. J.'s side of the bed, but let's be honest, I would wake up anyway.

In fairness to K, she doesn't wake up every night, but lately it's at least once a week. It's usually not for long either and soon after she'll tell me she's ready to go back to bed. But, when it's so close to my darn alarm going off at 5:30 a.m. it's just plain old exhausting, especially this morning when she didn't go back to bed.

My fingers are crossed that tonight is one of those deep-sleep-through-the-night type of nights, and I mean that for all of us.

After tucking K in this evening, I did the usual turn-off-her-light-because-she-always-turns-it-on-after-we-leave-her-room and found her happy as can be, wearing a hat. Surely that happy little face must be ready for a great night's sleep, right?
So if you're reading this, Kathryn, remember, if you do feel the need to get up in the middle of the night, know that you can always come into our room...and that daddy's side of the bed is just a few short steps away from mommy's.

Love,
Your Tired Mommy

Project 52 - Week 11

Everyday we walk in and out of front door and it takes a beating. Groceries are usually slammed into the door as I fumble for my keys while wrangling Kathryn, the dogs sometimes scratch their paws against the door, and the elements of country living naturally wear away at the clean look of a welcoming front door.

I wish I had taken a close-up so you could see a better look at the wear on the door.
I even had a special little helper to sand the door while we did the prep work. I purposely planned this as a pre-nap time activity because there was no way I could juggle painting and an active 22-month old.
In person, it looks drastically different. It's amazing what a fresh coat of paint on the door and the white molding will give it a clean, new look!

Project 52 - Week 10

This post was originally written on Sunday, March 10, however, I never actually posted it until today (the 17th) because I was too occupied enjoying my parent's visit to Texas!

This week has been crazy busy preparing for my parent's arrival. Crazy in a great way, though. Like the saying goes; nothing motivates you to clean quite like company, which proved to be true this week. I've been occupied with getting the deep cleaning done around the house and have been semi-successful. So while I was cleaning, I decided to take on a project.

I decided to tackle our laundry room. Eh, not the most fun activity, but it had to be done, obviously.
As if doing laundry wasn't painful enough, it's definitely no fun in a room that's hideous.
But with a little TLC, it's in better shape. Phew!

Project 52 - Week 9...umm??

Sorry, folks. I just couldn't do a project this weekend. I tried, I swear, but I just couldn't make myself get off the couch and be productive.

We left Saturday morning to attend my good friend/co-worker's wedding in San Antonio. The drive was easy, we checked into our room, dressed for the wedding, and E. J. dropped me off to attend the ceremony (since we had Kathryn with us, E. J. and K didn't attend at the risk of her even making a peep).

The reception was a blast! I even got to see my friend Annah from college, whom I hadn't seen since our wedding!
Kathryn danced the night away, at least until 8 p.m. when she decided it was time to go or else she was going to cause a scene.
We said our goodbye's and headed out to the truck. The valet then came back to us and said that the truck wouldn't start. What is it about San Antonio and us having bad luck? With no jumper cables to be find, we had to wait.

We accidentally left the tiny portable fridge on in E. J.'s truck that we kept some drinks and Kathryn's milk in. Great...

After being told by AAA that they would be there in 45 minutes, they showed up after 1.5 hours. Frustrating, yes. More frustrating when you have a tired little girl on your hands.

K and I hung out in the car for a little while and listened to the radio since we couldn't drain the battery any more than it had been. Kathryn had enough at one point and decided she was totally tired and coming down with a cold. The crying started and she wouldn't allow herself to calm down.
Tired and unamused
A few minutes later she puked all over herself and the car seat. That nasty smell of sour milk permeated that truck. I cleaned her off and the car seat as best as I could. AAA finally showed up to jump the vehicle. Thank GAWD!

We made it back to the hotel at 10 p.m., gave K a bath and she was sleeping by 11 p.m. We fell asleep around midnight in the cozy hotel bed. Sleep felt great. Just 40 minutes later, we were suddenly awake at the sound of Kathryn's little cry, which turned into big cries. We were able to hear two babies that she woke up...I'm sure we made some friends that night.

We tried to calm her down in her bed, but I think she was just frustrated with her congestion which may have been mixed in with a bad dream. As I was fumbling around trying to turn the light on, Kathryn threw up all over our bed. Soon after, I realized I unplugged the light to plug in my phone charger, so when I turned the light on, the smell matched the sight.

A 1 a.m. call to housekeeping wasn't how we were hoping the night would end, but our sheets were soon changed and we were all sleeping about 30 minutes later. Finally, we were sleeping for good and it was glorious.

She had gone through all of her extra clothes, but insisted she wear a shirt to bed. So I just threw on the shirt she had worn the day before, which worked as good as anything.
What a difference some sleep makes
The next morning we headed out to brunch where Kathryn was happy - still sick - but feeling more like herself.
Dancing to the mariachi music
On our way home, Kathryn showed off her new word "throw-up" as she pinched her nose. It was a learning experience for all of us :). We made our way home, all so very tired, but it felt so great to walk into the house and crash.
So do you forgive me for not doing a project this week? Pretty please? Thanks a bunch - I'll make it up, I promise!

22 Months

As soon as it was time to take 22 month pictures, Kathryn saw my camera, said "PICK-TERS", grabbed her bear, and sat up on her chair. In a nutshell, I think that describes how much she's growing up, comprehending, and impressing us daily.
A mini-lady Fabio
Insider-behind-the-scenes info: After a busy weekend along with K coming down with a nasty cold, she took a bath and I threw on this cute little sweater minus an undershirt since she was just going to change into her pj's after her photo shoot, which explains why she's being a little scandalous!

This has been the month of two-word phrases. "Go home", "Go away", "Bad turkey". All words that she has picked up from E. J. when he chases the wild turkey's out of our yard. She even says she needs a "stick" (just like dad) to chase around the turkey's...which she does! Country life, much?
When asked to smile for the camera
The darn bottle addition has still not been broken. We had a rough few weeks of her not eating much due to some serious teething, causing us to relapse a bit, although we are back to only one bottle of milk at night.

She's fully capable of using her little potty (just #1 for right now). She'll tell us off and on when she needs to go (surprisingly before and/or after a bath - she knows that would be "yucky" to go while in the bath). Mommy and daddy's wallet would appreciate full-on potty training sooner than later, but we're so happy with the progression she has made.

She's working on counting, which goes something like: "twooooo, peeee, fur".
Kathryn is nearing on size 6 diapers, wears a size 3T clothes, and 5-6 shoes.

Her favorite foods are: Pizza, pasta, chicken, broccoli, and chocolate. Yes, chocolate. She asks for it at night and if she's lucky she'll get a single Hershey's Kiss.

In fact, last night she walked into our room at 1:30 a.m. I woke up (barely) as I heard little foot steps coming toward our room. Our conversation went like this:

Me: What are you doing up, Kathryn?
K: EAT!
Me: What do you want to eat?
K: Dinner
Me: We already had dinner. Do you want to eat again?
K: Pizza
Me: You can't have pizza in the middle of the night
K: Pasta

Seriously, I can't even believe that we're now having conversations. Where has the time gone?
