Mommy Wants to Sleep

I can't help but be so proud that I have a really smart 22 month old. She already knows that the shortest distance between two objects is a straight line. Great, right? You bet, unless you're me.
Just because there happens to be a straight line between my side of the bed and our bedroom door naturally means that I'm the one K goes to if she wakes up in the middle of the night.

For example, this morning, K decided to start her day at 3:50 a.m. and who did she enthusiastically say "Hiiiiiiiiii" to as her little feet scampered across the floor? Me, of course!

I would be totally fine if she deviated once in a while and took a few extra steps to E. J.'s side of the bed, but let's be honest, I would wake up anyway.

In fairness to K, she doesn't wake up every night, but lately it's at least once a week. It's usually not for long either and soon after she'll tell me she's ready to go back to bed. But, when it's so close to my darn alarm going off at 5:30 a.m. it's just plain old exhausting, especially this morning when she didn't go back to bed.

My fingers are crossed that tonight is one of those deep-sleep-through-the-night type of nights, and I mean that for all of us.

After tucking K in this evening, I did the usual turn-off-her-light-because-she-always-turns-it-on-after-we-leave-her-room and found her happy as can be, wearing a hat. Surely that happy little face must be ready for a great night's sleep, right?
So if you're reading this, Kathryn, remember, if you do feel the need to get up in the middle of the night, know that you can always come into our room...and that daddy's side of the bed is just a few short steps away from mommy's.

Love,
Your Tired Mommy

  1. I always argue that Paul's side of the bed is more comfortable....but you know, after reading this, I think he can keep it! He'll be much closer to the door that way!

I hope you all get some sleep tonight!
