A Shiner

As we were packing to leave from Fort Worth yesterday, Kathryn was playing and all the sudden we heard a thump and a scream. Sure, this becomes something a mother and father become used to with a infant teetering on tolderhood, but this thump was definitely a doozy.

Turns out, she went face first into the night stand. We tried to put ice on her poor little cheek but she was way too pissed to allow us to apply any ice on the bruise.

After she calmed down, things were back to normal, minus the black and blue forming on her left cheek.
30 minutes after the incident when we revisited the
Water Gardens with some lovely coloring on her cheek...
Back home as if nothing had phased her
A tiny bit bruised, but mostly just an adorable face!
And tonight she's still sporting her little bruise with a touch of black eye

And yet again, still sporting that adorable, ever-so-sweet face

Memorial Day Weekend In Fort Worth

We are very fortunate that we were able to take a mini-vacation to Ft. Worth and take advantage of our 3-day weekend thanks to Memorial Day.

Although money is tight, which seems to be a trend with most people these days, we were able to stash away some money here and there for a while, allowing us feel not-so-guilty on the splurge of a trip away.

Some friends joined us on the trip and we hope to make a tradition out of a Memorial Day Weekend with an even larger group of friends in the future because we really had a great time.

On our first day there we headed to a Texas Rangers baseball game. Thankfully we were under the shade, which was much needed on a hot Texas spring night!

Smart girl keeping hydrated all throughout the game
Sad - one of the only shots of our friends who joined us (behind Kathryn)!

Dedicated fan?
After 4.5 innings, Kathryn decided it was time to leave.
In her defense it was her bedtime by that point!
On Sunday we went to the Fort Worth Zoo. We definitely got our money's worth...5+ hours of walking around and seeing every exhibit possible!
Checking out the gorillas. She was attached to E. J. all day.
Hard day of checking out the animals
Not exactly a fan of sitting on the kangaroo statue
After the zoo we ate a delicious dinner. It was a long day, can you tell?
After dinner we headed by to the hotel and checked out the rooftop deck. Since K was rested after her dinner-time nap, it was time to show off her dance skills and practice some walking while there was music playing, naturally.
Can you tell she was a bigger fan of E. J. that day?
When we initially arrived in Ft. Worth we went right across the street to explore the Water Gardens.
Kathryn loved them so much that we went back before we headed home on Monday. She was obsessed with touching the water!
And now it's back to the ole' work week, but we had a great time on our mini-vacation and a different change of pace.

Just Your Normal Wednesday Night

Nothing new to report around here, which in my mind is a good thing. Plus, we're getting closer to Friday, which is a great thing!

I think some of the most memorable moments are the average, everyday parts of your routine. This little girl makes everyday anything but routine.
Blackberries: A favorite dessert
Will do anything to get to the toys
I gave E. J. a haircut after dinner. I turned my head for a minute and look who broke into the razor case and started double combing her hair
I love my "routine".

My Little Cowgirl

While we were at work today, our little country girl was having fun riding one of my MIL's 50+ horses.
She looks like a natural to me!

A Few New Things

Kathryn has had a few changes this week that I wanted to document before my mommy brain quickly lost its thoughts.

*We started using half the amount of formula (now 4 oz) and mixing the other half with organic, hormone free whole milk. She's doing really well with the transition. Soon enough we won't have to buy formula anymore. Thank goodness because I can easily find other bills to put that $$ towards.
*Now that she's older and past the SIDS dangers, we let her start sleeping with the little kitty that she's obsessed with. E. J. got her the kitty a while back and she doesn't let it go once she has her strong little grip on it. Usually, we go into her room to check her out before we go to sleep ourselves. This has been the scene in her bedroom room the past few nights:
As you can see, I clearly need to do some laundry because she's been wearing random pieces of comfy clothes to bed. Oh well, comfy kids clothes work just fine to substitute for pj's. That goes for adults too, right? I hope so.
*This week she has really showed that she comprehends "Uh-Oh". K will purposely throw something on the ground and say "Uh...". She just hasn't mastered saying the last part "Oh" just yet. Cute :).

*After breakfast this morning E. J. and I were sitting on the couch while Kathryn was playing on the floor. Before we knew it, she climbed up on the couch with us and then got herself down as if she had been doing it for years. In K's words, "Uh"...oh.

Amazing how one week can bring so many new things.

Practice Practice

Before I forget...I recently changed the settings to make a comment on any of my posts. So, if you want to make a comment on a post, it should be much easier to do now as it no longer needs word verification. Try it out and let me know if you encounter any problems!

Back to business. Ms. Bug has been practicing a bit with her standing/walking skills. We really aren't in a rush to push her to walking and if she's anything like me, who didn't start walking until 16 months, she'll do things on her own time.
Balancing for about 5 seconds before bath time tonight
Post bath. She decided to take a little stroll with her walker (and if you listen closer you can hear a couple of her "huh's?" that she does all. the. time.

E. J. thinks she'll be walking by the end of June. We shall see!

Just Because...

...she's so darn sweet with animals. Especially with Tiger, her best buddy.
Happy 100th post, Town and Country Mom blog!

A Wedding, A First

We took Kathryn to her first wedding this weekend (a friend/former co-worker of E. J.'s). She was really well behaved, but after finishing her bottle and letting out a healthy burp during the ceremony (although I think only a few people around us actually heard it) she decided she wanted to "talk" a little bit so I brought her out to the lobby where a bunch of other kids and parents were hanging out.
The ceremony was a lot of fun, especially catching up with some friends we don't see often. I was so impressed that the ceremony was very "kid friendly". They provided all the kids (and there were lots of them) with a kid-friendly meal and goodie-bags filled with crayons and lolly pops. Great ideas! (We took the lolli pops for ourselves, though). We were also relieved to find out that had high chairs (although we had her stroller just in case). It's amazing how differently you think once you have a child!
Clapping as the crowd participated in a congo-line type dance.
She was either clapping or dancing in her high chair the entire time.
Taking a breather
Time to dance with dad
Although we were all pooped by the end of the night, it was a fun
Saturday evening with a different change of pace!
