Baby Proofing

We are a little overdue on some of the much needed baby proofing measures that all parents must take at one point or another. Although we have taken a few precautions, K has been loving opening cabinets and naturally reaching in them to find treasures. So while out running some errands today, we picked up these little gems:
Speaking of errands. Look who was over-the-moon to be at Home Depot today.
Opening the entertainment center
"Nothing to see here"...
The scene I often find in the morning if K is already awake. Thankfully, about a month ago E. J. lowered the crib to its lowest setting. So, no climbing out of the crib...yet.
Opening more cabinets....
Upset to hear that hydrogen peroxide is in fact, not a toy.
And by the looks of this mismatched outfit, I better stop blogging
and throw some clothes in the washer.

Disclaimer: Don't worry, all the photos above were taken while under complete supervision :)

Best Friends

This is Tiger. Also known as Kathryn's best friend.

Tiger is E. J.'s 20 year old cat. And, I have to admit, I wasn't a cat person when I met E. J., but Tiger is sweet enough to make any cat cynic turn, even if its the slightest bit.

Tiger has a funny personality who is really tolerable of an infant learning how to "pet" gently rather than hitting (which K is working on, but she gets so darn excited around him!).

She loves any sort of animal (obviously, she gets that from her dad), but there seems to be a special bond between the two of them.

Besides trying to eat him each time she sees him, he makes her smile all the time. She loves him!
Practicing gentle petting
K hit another milestone this week. Although she's been able to sit up for a few months now if you put her in that position, she's now able to get herself into the sitting position...and she's proud of it!

Another Saturday

Another Saturday has already come and gone. The weekend may only be half over, but Sunday's have Monday's looming all over it and it's just not as enjoyable as a good ole' Saturday.

I'm having a hard time believing that it's February with weather in the 70's - I shouldn't be complaining about it, but it's not exactly "winter weather". We took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and headed out for a walk.
The pasture
A stop to visit some of the horses.
Baby vs. Horse
You talkin' to me?
After our walk and some pretty serious playing, K stuffed in some sweet potatoes.
Looking sleepy...
...but happy!

Faces

Now that Kathryn can pull herself to the standing position while holding on to some sort of support, it's her favorite thing to do. Even though there are lots of fun toys in her playpen, the old thing she wants to do is STAND!

So while she was doing her new favorite thing, I played with my camera and took some close-ups of this adorable face :). (You'll definitely see her silly personality shine through!)
What the heck? How many pictures are we going to take, mom.

Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day!

Looking for a last minute gift for that special someone? Look no further! We had this catalog waiting in our mailbox last week. Seriously.

To celebrate, I'm made some treats: Heart-shaped cherry-chocolate chunk cookies and homemade peppermint patties, dyed to a festive pink! Yum! (I'm going to have to give a lot of these away so we don't eat them all!)

Playing with her Valentine's bear from daddy :)

Kathryn and her pants wish you a Happy Valentine's Day!

Wishing you a day, rather, a lifetime, filled with lots of love and happiness!

Coldsnap

We've had another wave of cold weather hit much of Texas, including us. Although no snow this time around, it has been pretty chilly - in the low 20s today!

I really do love this weather (as long as I'm at home safe and sound with my family in cozy warm clothes).

I had to run an errand during my lunch break today (I was hoping we'd be let out of work early since all the elementary, middle, and high schools had an early dismissal due to the icey road conditions but the higher ed folks weren't as lucky) and found my windshield and the rest of my car was a encased in ice.
Or should I say, iceshield...

Lucky for me when I came back to Texas 5 years ago, my dad equipped me with an ice scraper that comes in very useful multiple times a year. Thanks, Dad! :-)

We got home to find our entire front porch covered in ice...so I slowly scuffled around in heels. Surprisingly, this klutz made it to the front door with not even a slip!

Besides all the hassles that winter weather causes (which are typically minimal here), after eating dinner, feeding Buggie her butternut squash, giving her a bath and her last bottle, winter days like this are the ones I love the most. Nothing beats a full tummy and a cozy sweatshirt to keep you warm all night long.

Song recommendation

Recently, I heard Adele's song, "Rolling in the Deep" and instantly fell in love. Then I saw the video. It's really unlike any other music video I've seen before. I've been a fan of her music for a while, but I think this one is my favorite so far, so I thought I'd share. Enjoy!

9 month Dr.'s visit

Today was Kathryn's 9 month check-up and she passed with flying colors.

She tends to have this habit of rubbing her ears, especially when she's tired but the doc checked her ears out and they're all clear, no infections. She liked inspecting the light on his ear-checking instrument (nice use of technical terms) before she "let" him look at her ears :).
9 month stats:

21.7 lb (85th percentile)
28.5 inches (85th percentile)

No shots at this visit = no tears. Just the diagnosis of a healthy baby girl!

A Beautiful Sunday

Friday, snow. Today, over 60 degrees! We took advantage of the gorgeous weather and ventured out on a long walk. It felt great to get out and have the sun beaming down on us.
Little Miss Movie Star
After walking all around, we ended up visiting E. J. at the barn to drop off some water while since he was cleaning the horse stalls.
A glimpse at just some of the horses, many of which were having a lazy Sunday
This little girl loves her animals. While I was holding her, she would grab on to the stall bars and pull herself as close as possible so she could pet the horses.
Hanging out in the barn
Watching dad work his butt off...
...as we posed for pictures.
