Sunday Feasts

This morning I made a big breakfast for us which turned out to be pretty tasty! We had waffles, scrambled eggs/scrambled egg whites for me, and bacon. We think we should try to make a tradition out of a big weekend breakfast :)

Kathryn showed off her lazy Sunday attire while hanging around in her jeans and a shirt E.J. picked out for her (it reads: "Don't you wish your baby was sweet like me") Too cute!

For dinner I tried out a new recipe I've had my eye on for a while from Barefoot Contessa; Penne with vodka sauce. You can find the recipe here . The recipe says to drain the tomatoes and I don't think I drained them enough because it seemed like there was a little too much sauce, but I'll know better next time. Besides that, it was delicious and I highly recommend giving it a try! I didn't add the parmesan cheese since E.J. isn't a fan, so the meal felt less "guilty" :).

Now we have lots of tasty leftovers :)

Gas

No, the title of this post isn't what you think ;). I had the thought the other day that I wish had occurred to me when Kathryn was born: document gas prices so one day she could look back and see how "cheap" gas was when she was born.

So, on Friday, August 26, 2010 I took a picture of the gas prices when I purchased some before work. It should be interesting to look back on this one day.

Today I took some self-portraits of me and the little bug in
her pj's before a bottle and bedtime :)

Where did the weekend go?

Seriously! Another weekend has quickly passed and I don't know where it went. Although our weekend was fairly uneventful, here's a recap!

Kathryn at her grandma's on Friday. Happy, as usual!

Friday night was great because we had take-out, which meant no cooking for me! After giving Kathryn a bath, feeding her din-din, she was off to sleep and we watched "The Wrestler". Eh, not exactly the most uplifting movie, but we're trying to make Friday an/or Saturday night in-house movie nights.

Saturday: The 3 of us went into town, ate some Chick-Fil-A (YUM!), and did our grocery shopping. All the running around really ran someone out :)

Since Katiebug no longer fits into her adorable sunhat, while folding clothes, Tiger, E.J.'s 19 year old cat tried it on. He's a sweetie.
Saturday night we watched "Taken", which was excellent! Very suspenseful, nerve racking, and keeps you thinking.

We went for our usual weekend walk on Sunday morning. Within the first two minutes, this is what happened:

Somehow I ended up doing 5 loads of dishes this weekend yet picked up dinner Friday night, I cooked Saturday night, and we had leftovers tonight. (See, not much happened this weekend and the 'excitement' of the weekend was the amount of dishes I did).

Kathryn has been drooling up a storm, which must mean teething is around the corner, so she often needs to wear a bib to prevent the front of her clothes from getting soaked. Here she is representing her favorite team (hopefully she'll take my side and not become a Rangers fan like her dad.). She was cracking up while I was talking to her and taking pictures. After these pictures, she ate and went to bed for the night at 6:50 p.m.!

See! Not much going on here...just waiting on fall to get here so we don't have anymore days over 100 degrees!

First Big Milestone!

I'm a couple days late to recap from this past weekend, but I swear I have an excuse. After a year of writing stories, I'm finally finished my last story to fulfill my internship hours, yay! I'm meeting with my graduate advisor during my lunch break tomorrow to go over edits. Once I "clean up" the story with those edits, I'll send my story on to the book review editor and it's out of my hands and on its way to publication! What a great feeling! It's one step closer to being done as I turn in my last internship invoice. This fall I have to work on my portfolio, present it, and take my final exam (I'm dreading that part the most!).

Now that I have a little more time before I head to bed, I wanted to post some pictures from this weekend and also announce that Kathryn rolled over for the first time on Sunday! I was changing Kathryn's diaper and noticed that she was really moving a lot more and was rolling to her side, so E.J. and I put her on a blanket in her room and had her playing around. I ran and got the video camera in case she did roll over and then it happened, caught on video! (It took about 6 minutes, but I cut down the video to the good stuff :).

Now to backpedal a bit.

Showing off her sticking-out-my-tongue-skills that her daddy taught her.
(She's imitating him here).

Hanging out with dad.

Saturday morning Kathryn and I went for a walk. We had to go at 8 a.m. before it got too hot, and even at that hour I came back sweating (hello fall, where are you??). As we prepared for our walk, I tried to put on her cute sunhat, but apparently she's grown since the last time she wore it and it's too small!

The three of us ran some errands in town later that afternoon and picked up some new shades so she wouldn't have to worry about the sun in her eyes on our walks.

Preparing for a business meeting that she's been stressing over for weeks.

Winding down after a long day and watching "Monsters vs. Aliens" with dad (animated movie). It was crazy how she would get so excited during the "suspenseful" parts of the movie. She would wiggle all around and her arms and legs would flail all over the place! And no mom, we don't sit her in front of the tv all day ;).

Walks are not only more enjoyable without the sun in Kathryn's eyes, but much more stylish.

After our walk, we had a casual Sunday morning photo shoot.

It looks like I'm coming down with a case of the-mom-is-never-in-the-pictures-because-she's-always-taking-the-pictures syndrome that lots of moms seems to come down with. I'm going to have to work on that.

Tummy Time!

In an attempt to keep strengthening her neck little muscles, I taped a little bit Kathryn's tummy time! Before you know it, she'll be sitting up on her own :)

Holding on to daddy's finger in her little monkey pants this morning.

Snuggling with dad around 10am before he heads to bed for the day.
Great news! E.J. will be heading back to his old job in 2 weeks, which means that while he'll still be a peace officer, he'll have "normal" work hours. A normal schedule = more family time for us and no crazy sleep schedules anymore because it stinks being on completely opposite schedules, especially now that Kathryn is in our lives. Thank goodness, it's a huge relief!

Back in the Routine

Well, tomorrow it's already back to work. Where has the week gone? Thankfully, the transition back to working full-time was made much easier. E.J.'s mom kindly volunteered to watch Ms. Kathryn while she's still a tiny little girl, so she won't be heading to daycare just yet. Plus, it's a nice feeling knowing that she's in good hands. This situation works out really well as there isn't an available spot in our #1 daycare choice right now, but one should become available sometime early next year.

Besides making the big step to head back to work, this week Kathryn also had some milestones:
1) She can turn on our side! She can't roll over yet, but she's half-way there!
2) Giggles! After dinner, we were sitting at the table and E.J. was playing peek-a-boo with Kathryn while I was holding her. He's tried it with her in the past, but she really wasn't getting it. Today it was definitely "making sense" to her and she would start laughing each time he uncovered his face. It was super cute - we'll have to catch that on video soon!

What I did catch on video was a glimpse at Ms. K waking up in the morning. She's always soooo happy when it's time to wake up, so I thought I'd share some proof! THANKFULLY she's still been a great sleeper! From day 1 she has slept in her crib :) Granted, the first month was a little rocky, but since month 1 she has continued to sleep though the night!

A few things to note:
1) Her adorable little legs! You'll see her nightgown rode up a bit and her socks are pulled up past her knees...love it! She's past the swaddling stage because she just breaks out of the blanket within a few minutes, so that's why she gets high socks to keep her little legs warm :)
2) Listen carefully: Once I set her down on the bed to change her, I ask her: "Who's the happiest girl in the world" and it TOTALLY sounds like she says "I AM". There are a other times where it sounds like she's trying to immitate me, but her response to that question was just too much!
3) Enjoy! (She makes 5:15 a.m. look great)

On a side note...I can't wait for fall to get here. Below is proof as to why I'm over this summer thing. We have a thermometer on the porch and the display for it is in our laundry room. 115 degrees at 7:30 p.m.? NO THANKS!
