The Waive

E.J. has been teaching Kathryn to waive and stick out her tongue and she is really catching on (especially with sticking out her tongue, it's so cute!). Yesterday, I tried to capture some waiving action. She's a little rusty, but I guess we'll give her a break since she just turned 12 weeks old yesterday ;). (Can't believe how quickly these past 12 weeks went by!)
Here she is practicing her waiving! (Disclaimer: Beware - extreme cuteness, and also a random hand on the bottom left of the screen - that's E.J.'s hand, he was taking a nap since he didn't get much sleep trying to adjust to his night schedule).

I snuck into her nursery a couple of nights ago to capture a couple of pictures while she sleeps. She either sleeps with her hands above her head or out to the side. We get a kick out of watching her sleeping positions :)

Week in Review

Another week gone by and unfortunately, it was my last full week at home before I head back to work on Wednesday (saddest day ever!). These past three months have gone by faster than I could have imagined and I'm savoring every last moment with our little girl.
I love taking care of her and I'm going to miss her so much during the day, but that just means we'll make the nights and weekends that much more special :).
So on to some Kathryn updates! This week she started cooing in such a way that she was really trying to talk to us. Her little noises are so sweet.
Today, I caught Kathryn truly sucking her thumb, which I think is the first time she's really done that (or at least the first time I've actually caught her doing it). When she gets hungry, she basically starts gnawing at her hand (she's my little hungry girl!) but today she went specifically for the thumb.
Since I have to go back to work in just a few days, I've been taking advantage of my time off and taking naps with Kathryn, plus she sleeps WAY longer if she sleeps on your chest (I'm talking like 2 1/2 hour naps, she loves being close!). I didn't sleep as long as her, so I took advantage of having my phone close by and snapping a few shots of her peacefully sleeping.

After her nap, I put her in her swing while I did some dishes. As I was finishing up, she was definitely getting hungry and that's when I caught her sucking her thumb! CUTE :)

Geez, Mom. No more pictures!
Here she is hanging out with Dad around 2 a.m the other morning and showing off her skills of lifting up her head on her own. (After he gets home from work, E.J. always goes in to say goodnight to her, and since he had a schedule change that day (he didn't have to be at work until 10 p.m. that night) he decided to pick her up out of her crib to hold her for a bit. It actually worked out nicely because she woke up, ate, and slept until 8 that morning - normally she sleeps until 6ish and then goes back to sleep for a while).
Bath time Mohawk
Excuse me, can you please direct me to the nearest spa? I'm desperately in need of a massage.
Good Morning! Just woke up from another great sleep! (By the way, the past two nights I gave her a bottle and put her to sleep wide awake and without any fussing, she went to bed on her own!! Woo hoo!)
Pretty sunset last night. Here's to a great week and a (hopefully) smooth transition back to work...

Clumsy

In true Barbara fashion, I couldn't let my maternity leave finish up without some "excitement". Last week I was going to take Kathryn out to run some errands. After getting her strapped into her car seat, I first made a trip out to my car to pack her diaper bag and some dry cleaning to be dropped off. I was about 5 feet from my car when I stepped onto a small uneven part of the ground, heard a pop, and fell straight to the ground.

OUCH it was painful! THANKFULLY, Kathryn was patiently waiting for me inside and I wasn't holding her car seat or else she would have gone down with me. After laying there in extreme pain for a minute, I got myself up, very, very slowly. Since the swelling wasn't going down, I finally went to the doctor...4 days later (however I still ran my errands that day after an hour of resting!). The doctor couldn't believe the swelling, but the good news was that I didn't break or fracture anything, instead I tore a ton of ligaments (hence the bruises all over my feet...see below for evidence!).

So now I'm supposed to wear an air cast for a month to prevent me from re-injuring myself and to help with the sprain. My ankle feels much better after I've been carefully walking on it for a while, but the initial walking around is terrible, especially after sleeping all night!

My lovely air cast protecting my swollen foot/ankle/leg. Still trying to figure out how I'm going to wear this when I go back to work in a week and half since right now sneakers are the only shoes I own that it will fit in...

The bruising

Just to compete with my injury, E.J. went to help his mom yesterday with one of her horses (the horse needed to be caught so it can be halter broken). Long story short, E.J. came home drenched in sweat with two painful looking welts on each of his legs after being kicked by the horse. Poor guy! They look incredibly painful, but they eventually did catch the horse!

So last night we hobbled around and had a romantic Saturday evening watching a movie as we iced our wounds :).

On a brighter note, I attempted a short walk with Kathryn because my ankle feels better after walking around it for a bit. Here she is looking oh-so-cute in her sun hat.

And of course, I had to end this post with her cute-as-can-be smile! Looking at this picture suddenly makes any pain I'm having, disappear.

Off The Charts...Literally!

Yesterday was Kathryn's 2-month checkup! She did great and demonstrated her super strong lungs when she got her vaccinations. Although, as soon as the band-aids were on, the crying stopped and she was ready to go run errands with mom. She checked out to be a strong healthy girl - the best news a mom and dad can hear. :)

2 Month Stat's

Height: 25 inches (the nurse said she's off the charts in this category because she's past the 95 percentile! Super model in the making?!?!)
Weight: 12.1 lb (90th percentile)

Battle wounds (notice she wore her lion shirt to show how brave she was)

As mentioned in my last post, Kathryn LOVES her swing and especially the monkey that dangles above her. There's also a hippo swinging next to the monkey, however, she prefers the monkey and gets soooo excited by it. Not only is the swing great for entertaining, but it's her favorite daytime napping spot. She won't take much of a nap in her crib during the day, but will sleep for a good amount of time as she's being rocked away. Here's a look at her enjoying her swing!

2 months!

Happy 4th of July and Happy 2 Month Birthday Kathryn! It's completely cliche, but time is really just going by too fast!

To continue our month-by-month pictures, here's a look at our little girl on her two month birthday!

Kathryn is such a sweet little girl and she grows more personality each day! For about a month now she's been sleeping through the night (woo hoo!). She usually goes to bed between 9 p.m. - 10 p.m. and is up around 6 a.m., eats, then back to sleep for 2 more hours. We'll take that! (Knock on wood that her sleep schedule continues to go so well!)

She's also becoming full of smiles, loves bath time and her swing (more pictures to come). She's also becoming good at imitating E.J. if he sticks his tongue out at her and she even "waives" back at you!

I think Katie is going to be a daddy's girl! She loves taking naps with dad and by the looks of it, wants to be just like him!

We head to the doctor on Tuesday for her two month check-up, so we'll have some two-month stats posted soon.

Until then, we hope you had a great 4th of July! I tried to be a little festive and made some red, white, and blue cookies (white chocolate chips, dried blueberries and cranberries, and then of course I had to add in some chocolate chips!).
